MUSIC FOR RELIEF GREEN HOME PROGRESS REPORT

Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who participated in Saturday's Tree Care event with Music for Relief and TreePeople. MUSIC FOR RELIEF TEAMS UP WITH DIRECT RELIEF INTERNATIONAL TO FUND SMALL HAITIAN NONPROFITS

MANY HAITIANS STILL HOMELESS AS RAINY SEASON APPROACHES

With hurricane season starting soon, the people of Haiti fear the possible dangers approaching with the lack of proper, more permanent shelters. Over 1 million people are currently living in tents in makeshift camps and will soon face risks of flooding and mudslides. A lack of suitable land for resettlement in Port-au-Prince has created hesitation within the government to build these shelters. SEVERE FLOODS, TORNADOES HIT SOUTHEAST U.S.

The Southeastern United States was deeply affected by a severe and slow-moving cold front that brought record amounts of rain and tornadoes to some areas in a 48-hour span. The hardest hit areas were Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama and Kentucky where the weather brought record rainfall, and as a result, flooding of historical levels to many areas. EARTHQUAKE IN YUSHU UPDATE

Early in the morning on April 14th, 2010, a 6.9-magnitude earthquake rocked the mountainous region Qinghai Province. Its epicenter was in Yushu in this region, about 150 miles northwest of Qamdo, Tibet. It its aftermath, 2,220 people have been reported killed, 70 are still missing, and 12,000 have been injured. The quake also brought down hundreds of homes and schools in the area, as well as breaking bridges to central areas and access to airports. …

TWO YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF CYCLONE NAGRIS

It's been two years since Cyclone Nagris hit Myanmar's Irrawaddy Delta. The cyclone is considered to be the worst natural disaster in Asia since the 2004 tsunami, leaving 140,000 dead and affecting 2.4 million.



In 2008, Music for Relief raised funds for Cyclone relief efforts, these funds were used to support our partnership with World Vision and their overall program to provide rice, oil, and pulses to 350,000 people in the Yangon and Ayeyarwaddy provinces.
