It's been 5 years since Hurricane Katrina struck the U.S. Gulf Coast and flooded New Orleans. This devastating storm destroyed 275,000 homes, took out over 400 schools, and changed over 15 million people's lives forever.
One of the major reasons the storm was so destructive, reaching category 4, was because the wetlands on the coast were unable to act as a buffer to prevent the hurricane from reaching land.
Along with our supporters, Music for Relief has partnered with Habitat for Humanity to help fund and rebuild multiple homes in New Orleans that were lost from the storm.
MFR's Send Dirt campaign is still underway, raising funds to restore Louisiana's fragile wetlands that were endangered by the storm. These wetlands provide a home for hundreds of different animal and plant species and without this unique habitat, there's little chance for this crucial biodiversity to survive.
