The Louisiana Wetlands are nature's protection from hurricanes and they're depleting at an incredibly dangerous rate. Wetlands once protected the entire Gulf Coast region from hurricanes by acting as a sponge to soak up storm surges. This land was also once home to hundreds of animal and plant species. Animals have since become endangered due to habitat destruction and water pollution. Today, coastal Louisiana is losing an average of 34 square miles of wetlands per year. If nothing is done to stop this land loss, Louisiana could potentially lose approximately 700 additional square miles of marsh wetlands an area equal to the size of the greater Washington D.C. Baltimore area in the next 50 years.
This is why Music For Relief has decided to SEND DIRT to the depleting wetlands of coastal Louisiana.
Here is how you can help us SEND DIRT to restore and protect the wetlands.
1) This summer,
MFR will be on the 2009 Vans Warped Tour. Visit the MFR booth at the tour and donate to our DIRT DIVE for a chance to dive into a pile of dirt and find amazing prizes!!
2) If you are on Facebook or if you have a Wordpress blog, add the Socialvibe app to your page or blog and support MFR and Send dirt.
3) You can also join Socialvibe and support the Send Dirt cause on your MySpace or other social networking profiles!
