On September 30th 2009, a 7.9 magnitude earthquake rocked Western Sumatra, damaging over 200,000 homes. Less than a month later, Hands On Disaster Response (www.hodr.org) launched Project Sungai Geringging to help the Indonesian survivors recover and rebuild. Music for Relief is a proud supporter of this program.
So far, HODR has safely deconstructed more than 99 critically damaged
structures, while framing 7 transitional shelters, installing 6 latrines, and constructing 10 water catchment systems. Even more amazing is the fact that HODR is almost entirely staffed by volunteers; since its inception, project Sungai Geringging has logged over 25,000 volunteer hours. HODR volunteers will remain in Indonesia until April 9th.
Hands On Disaster Response is also currently operating Project Leogane
in Haiti. If you are interested in volunteering your time for HODR please visit www.hodr.org.
